Mixing

I don't have that 48 channel Neve desk, but I do have some wicked outboard, a pristine monitoring system, the best plugins in the world and last but not least - ten years of mixing experience!

Most of the bands that employ me for mixing are Metal bands. But don't shun me just because I'm a fast drummer. I really dig all styles of music and have been mixing the lot. From folk to blackmetal.

I also do great deals on Mixing and Mastering combined!

A small list of things to make my work easier, and your end result better :

  • When tracking, if you can, record a separate DI-signal for all your guitar and bass tracks. Re-amping can be crucial for a great end-result.
  • Please name your tracks in english, and as informational as possible. (Kick, Snare top, RythmGuitar1, Bass DI, Leadguitar1 etc.)
  • Don't process your tracks during recording/export unless absolutely necessary. If there is a specific sound you want, send me a clean version of the track along with the processed. Name these tracks coherently.
  • For software synthesizers and such, please bounce your track to Audio and send along-side the with the MIDI. Name the tracks coherently.
  • You could either send me OMF-files, or Pro Tools files, or export the audio as Wave, split-stereo, 24-bit, >=44.1 KHz. Make sure the tracks are consolidated with the same starting position, so I can align them in my DAW!
  • If you send me a Pro Tools session, please clear the session from any excess tracks and/or takes. (Don't forget to back up before minimizing the session.)
  • Please organize exported files in a folder hierarchy based on song, with folder named after song-title.
  • If you send me a hard drive, make sure it's formatted in FAT32 or HFS+
  • Please record in 24-bit.

Mastering

I can help you put that last but vital touch to your music, using a combination of analogue and digital processing. I can deliver it on physical disc or as DDP-image, with ISRC and EAN codes.

A small list of things to make my work easier, and your end result better :

  • Please send me Wave, split-stereo, 24-bit, >=44.1 KHz
  • Do not make fades in/out when you mix, but rather leave space for me do make them. Write down in detail how you want the fades, along with any specific crossfades you want. Much rather leave too much ringing in the end of the tracks than to little.
  • Don't dither the mix, but send it in it's original un-processed 24-bit resolution file.
  • Do not apply too much processing on your masterbus. Some compression (a couple of dB gain reduction) is fine, and some gentle eq.
  • Do not normalize your files.
  • Leave some headroom on your mixbus. Peaks between -6 and -3 dBFS is perfect.
  • Please name files with track number first (01, 02 etc) then name of track exactly as you want it to appear on the CD-text.
  • If you send me a hard drive, make sure it's formatted in FAT32 or HFS+
